I have been blogging since 2005 and have been aware and appreciative of Soccer Dad's initiative "Haveil Havalim" since the inception of my recreational blogging career. However, it was only recently that I found out exactly what the Jewish Blogger Carnival was all about.
What is Heveil Havalim?
Here is a snyopsis of what Heveil Havalim is from the blog Frum Satire:
"The Jewish Bloggers Carnival is hosted each week by a different blogger who volunteers by emailing Jack at talktojacknow@scglobal.net, if you want to submit your post or posts (don’t be greedy – I usually submit one) just use the Jewish Bloggers Carnival Submission Form. Posts submitted get emailed in that form to whomever is hosting that week, then that person
compiles a post with a bunch of links to posts of random blogs."
The most interesting part of the experience for me as host of Haveil Havalim is being able to be in touch with famous bloggers, some of which are quite famous, from all type of Jewish and religious backgrounds from around the world! Here are this week's submissions for the Jewish Bloggers Carnival:
ALIYAH
* Ruti Mizrachi is an Olah Hadash who now lives in Neve Daniel and has a blog titled Ki Yachol Nuchal!. She wrote that she wishes that Heveil Havalim would have a category called "ALIYAH" so I added that category to this edition of Heveil Havalim. She submitted a post titled "There is a place for you here" about reinventing yourself after aliyah.
* I started this blog in anticipation of making aliyah which I hope to do later in summer 2010 (please email if you have any aliyah advice for me). I try to post articles relating to Eretz Yisroel, about my upcoming aliyah, or about aliyah in general. I post for me for this week was about Dr. Rebetzin Rivkah Adler is finally going to be making aliyah this year and I posted a link to an interview where she was interviewed by Go'el Jasper).
*Mominsrael A Mother in Israel) and Risa (Isramom), both olim, both wrote about their experiences with Jbloggers that got together one night at Petach Tikva. See their posts Blogger’s Night Out in Petach Tikva (Updated) and Meeting and Greeting! Risa also posted an article title: What's In A Name? Risa in an olah to Rechovot (Risa, I know 2 really nice families in Rehovot - the Abrams from Scotland and the Marcus from South Africa - do you know either of them?). I was unable to find any information about Mominisrael from her webpage.
*Yisroel Medad submitted four posts for thie edition of Haveil Havalim. He is american born and moved to Israel in 1970. He has lived in Shiloh since 1981. He has been a political aide to Members of Knesset and a Minister. He now works at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem and serves as an unofficial spokesperson for the Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria. Maybe I will meet you one day after I make aliyah.
Yisroel presents 4 posts. First he presents Who Will Invite the C-G to a Jewish Olive Harvest Event? saying, "Yisrael Medad thinks an invitation should be extended to the US Consul-General to attend a Jewish olive harvest event." He also presents My Right Word: Grass Skirts All The Rage "MyRightWord, in a bit of family nostalgia, recalls when grass skirts were the rage." He also presents My Right Word: On Palestine Policing - Mandate Days, saying, "If Mandate history interests you, MyRightWord has got something quite interesting." Finally, he presents Tweet Torah saying, "Have you heard of Tweet Torah? At "From the Hills of Efraim", Yisrael Medad wonders a nit."
*Jacob Richman is one of my heros although I never have met him. I find one of the hardest things about making aliyah is the negativity a lot of Jews have about moving to Israel, saying this about the rotten economy, the rotten politicians, the terrorism, etc. His webpages gives a lot of chizuk to us in chutz l'aretz by always being so positive. He tells us that "There are jobs in Israel!" and names his Blog "Good News from Israel. He posted an article for Parashat Noach.
*Batya, aka Muse, who lives in Shilo in Israel, wrote this amazing post about her father whole made aliyah at the age of 89. She also had posts about Antisemitism, Can It Be Stopped? and Super (InterGenerational) Sandwich: Not Easy.
*Maya is an olah who lives in Northern Israel that wrote a post About my sudden return to the world of blogging... It is about "How to Be Israeli is back! The link explains what made her return. She has other posts this week cover weighty issues such as whether Israeli can be considered to have fall foliage, Isra-fab decorating sense, reflections on the chagim, Danish modern furniture (purchased with lirot!), and the creative euphemisms used for pork in non-kosher grocery stores.
(I originally wanted to write a bio for every post but ran out of time. Here are the rest of the posts submitted this week. :) )
